Tape Operator – Part Time/Freelance
This position reports to the Senior Director/Coordinating Producer. This position is responsible for operating videotape recording and playback during live and taped studio productions. The hours may vary based on live event schedules from early mornings to late nights. The candidate must be able to perform well in a live broadcast environment, work well under pressure, and as part of a team.
Duties May Include:
- Preparing and organizing tapes before each show
- Working with Producers and Directors to ensure proper tapes are ready for each show
- Reading meters and monitors to ensure high-quality playback tapes
- Loading and playing tapes back with very low error rate
- Recording incoming video tape feeds or facilitating outgoing feeds
- Dubbing of archiving videotape materials
Required skills & abilities:
- Ability to work a highly flexible schedule
- Required a high school diploma or equivalency – some college or technical school is preferred
- Minimum one year’s experience working in a video or digital audio/video environment; experience with linear videotape editing preferred
- Strong knowledge of sports teams
- High attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Proficiency in video recording equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot and effectively make decisions
- Good attitude and willingness to learn
- Knowledge of iNews newsroom computer system
